Challenge:

A small technical company in the Middle East acting as a dealer for a large telecommunications manufacturer needed to reassess and update its working practices in order to adjust to a period of growth and increased workload.

Solution:

In order to align with the overall business strategy, Black Dog designed a technical strategy that addressed all areas of technical support that targeted a range of tactical and strategic financial and performance improvements across the business in Iraq. Recommendations aimed to save multiple $100k initially with improved cash-flow in the medium to long term. Internal business processes formulated to accommodate the growth of the company, incorporate learning and cultural knowledge sharing in addition to restructuring and formalizing direct engineering support to the customer by identifying skills awareness and creating engineer career paths.

Results:

This analysis was a top-down study taking months to put together. In excess of 20 highly detailed recommendations were broken down on a spectrum of tactical to strategic and included everything from engineer tool allocation, personnel motivation, and career development up to the way the business invoiced for services. The single recommendation to change the way the company broke down and invoiced for partial services increased the regularity of payments and therefore cash flow. The career progression and motivational elements meant that to this day their key engineers have remained with the company.
